We are thrilled to announce that APTN Languages, a groundbreaking new channel dedicated entirely to Indigenous languages, is now available on New North Networks Channel 42—and it’s included in your basic cable package!

What is APTN Languages?

Launched on September 1, APTN Languages is the first channel of its kind, offering 24/7 programming in 18 Indigenous languages. From children’s programming like Anaana’s Tent in Inuktitut to special premieres such as the Anishinaabemowin dub of Star Wars: A New Hope, this channel is a vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture and language revitalization.

According to APTN, this channel provides a platform for native speakers, learners, and even non-speakers to connect with Indigenous culture through subtitles in English and French. It’s a powerful step toward preserving and celebrating the stories, traditions, and voices of Indigenous communities across Canada.

Why is This Important?

Since its inception in 1999, APTN has been a leader in broadcasting Indigenous content. Now, with APTN Languages, the network is taking its mission a step further by dedicating an entire channel to programming in Indigenous languages.

“This is about more than just bringing a new channel to our lineup,” says Tom Zubko, President of New North Networks. “APTN Languages is a bridge to Indigenous traditions and heritage, providing a vital connection to the stories and voices that have shaped our community. We’re proud to offer this meaningful programming to our customers.”

What Can You Watch?

APTN Languages features more than 100 hours of weekly programming, including:

  • Children’s Shows like Anaana’s Tent, showcasing Inuit culture.
  • Special Premieres, such as Star Wars: A New Hope in Anishinaabemowin (Anangong Miigaading).
  • Cultural Documentaries, stories, and original Indigenous-language productions.
